You are a PM of your Notes
I love taking notes. Notes help you achieve your goals, they help you plan better. Notes can serve many purposes but expectations around notes can vary for every individual.
So, if you managed your notes like a product person, you could have one or more of the following requirements:
I want well-organised notes so that I can get my work done faster.
I’d like to have beautiful notes that is a reflection of my personality.
I’d like to keep my notes which can be easy to access and store information.
…and so on.
Digital notes help us a lot. Over time, your wants and needs from these notes evolve. So you should add more elements to your notes to keep them useful.
There can be many million ways for you to evolve your notes and your note-taking process.
Here’s how I evolved mine:
Earlier I used to make simple notes – just blocks of texts with little to no formatting.
Soon enough, I switched to bullet points and introduced checklists into my notes.
Earlier I used complex labels that a future me (in a matter of months) would struggle to understand.
Now I keep my labels simple so they are super-easy to use.
Archiving of notes became an important feature to me, once I started categorising my notes as temporary and permanent. I archive these temporary notes regularly so that it’s always easy for me to scroll through my notes, especially the more important ones.
These days I am trying out a note-taking tab that can help me take hand-written notes using a stylus! These notes directly go into my notes apps. I find them to be good for ideation/brainstorming meetings.
Note-taking has always been an ever-evolving process. Since our school days, we have evolved our notes and the way we created them. Scratch to scratch, doodle to doodle, colors to colors, strikeouts, tags, and whatnot!
So, why stop now? ;)
I write Product stories almost every week. If you liked this story and would like to read more, do give me a follow!
